Oprah Winfrey Network – Original Shorts: Agnes

In 1993, retired schoolteacher Agnes Stevens read a book on homelessness that changed her life. She made the decision to use her classroom experience to help homeless children stay in school and get good grades. Beginning with children in a nearby park, now 20 years later Agnes and her project, School on Wheels, provide tutoring to children in shelters, motels, cars and the streets. Stevens was one of three women who received the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child, known as the “Children’s Nobel Prize.”
