Donation Stories

Below are the stories of those who either donate to School on Wheels or have benefited from the donations to School on Wheels.

Assistance League of Santa Monica

The Assistance League of Santa Monica donate holiday boxes, backpacks and school supplies on a regular basis, School on Wheels would like to thank the AL of Santa Monica and Maria Manetta for their continued support and invaluable contributions.
Andrea Burroughs

Andrea Burroughs (right), Beverley Hills, buys snacks every week for the children at the School on Wheels' Downtown Learning Center – finally our children get to have fresh, healthy snacks. They particularly enjoy broccoli and carrots. Thank you
Andrea for your generosity and thoughtfulness.
Bob Morris

Bob Morris is the owner of Paradise Cove Beach Café in Malibu. Each year, Bob, his many friends and the residents of Paradise Cove, bring joy to about 200 homeless kids. He opens up the Café for a big party for School on Wheels. He provides great food, rents buses to bring the kids from Long Beach, Venice, LA’s skid row, Ventura, South L.A., Hollywood and many other cities. He enlists community helpers and organizations who volunteer their time and, as he does every year, he buys each child a gift.
Greg Gerson, owner of the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, fills the Cove parking lot with great rides for the kids. His staff transports the equipment, sets it all up and watches over the kids like angels so that no one gets hurt.

The Malibu Fire Department, Station 71 and the Malibu Sheriffs Department deliver Santa to the party and give out bags of gifts to each child.

At the end of the day, 200 tired kids get back on their buses and drive away from the best Christmas party many of them had ever had. We can not thank Bob enough for the wonderful party he throws and the graceful way he does it. Thank you to everyone who makes it possible.
Rebecca Gonzalez

My father was in a work related accident over 30 years ago which left him unemployed with six children and a wife. Many wonderful oraganizations helped our family get back on our feet. Once things were better my dad did what he could to help organizations such as this and others out of gratitude for helping our family. My dad passed away not to long ago and I want to continue the generosity he bestowed in me. –Rebecca Gonzalez
My name is J.J. and I am 8 years old.

My name is J.J. and I am 8 years old. I am sometimes shy. We learned about your school because our teacher Mrs. Smith told us about it. Our class room is going to be raising money and we’re going to buy new books for you by selling otter pops and nachos. We’re going to do this for you because we all care for you and we feel sad because if it was me I would feel sad. Sincerely your friend, J.J
Girl Scout Troop 95

Troop 959, Ventura Girl Scouts spent a day filling over 100 backpacks with school supplies. Each backpack was filled with pencils, crayons, paper, a dictionary, folder and paper. The girls really enjoyed their morning's work and were really excited that their efforts would be helping homeless children in Ventura.
Southwest Airlines

I was watching a week-end local news program and they were talking about homelessness and School on Wheels. Southwest is a company that wants to give to our community, so it seemed like such a great opportunity for us.

I checked out your web site to find out exactly what you do for these homeless children. At our next Culture Committee meeting at Southwest, we decided to raise money for School on Wheels at our Golf Tournament. We were very happy to have raised money to help these children and to provide over 200 toys that we collected during our Holiday Party.

It has been our pleasure to work with the staff and volunteers from School on Wheels. We feel like it has been a wonderful fit with Southwest Airlines.
