A Letter From Agnes

Dear Friends,

What makes School on Wheels so very special are the homeless children we serve. Over the years, I have learned so much from littlest kindergartener to the teenager in senior year. They are an inspiration to me, our team and our volunteers. I hope you will take the time to roam through our website and read their stories of success, of tragedies faced with courage and persistence, of fun, creativity and happiness they find in the moment. Never forget how very little it takes to help a child! He or she responds in leaps and bounds, knowing that someone is there for them each week, someone understands them and knows how important it is to have the right supplies, uniform and above all, someone who will listen and help.

Our volunteer tutors make School on Wheels special. The child takes ownership of the tutor, and often excitedly talks about “my tutor” and  greets her with smiles and eagerness. My biggest goal - and we think big at School on Wheels - is to have a tutor for every homeless child in Southern California. It can be done, as all we ask is one hour a week – spread the word.

Last, but certainly not least, the people who make School on Wheels so special are our donors who make this happen and sustain us and help us grow so we can be there for more and more children. This equals a better future for them, our communities, our country and ultimately the world. If you knew our children, you would know that I am not exaggerating.

I feel nothing but pride for our organization and team that dedicate themselves to the mission of education so that the most vulnerable children in our society will not be forgotten and will become the best they can be in their educational journey. I welcome each of you to become a part of School on Wheels.

Warm regards,
Agnes
