We've learned that being someone special to a homeless child doesn't take a lot of time, but the impact is enormous - for both of you. Become a tutor for School on Wheels and make a difference in your community. Tutoring for School on Wheels is fun and one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have.  Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and professions with one goal: to make a positive difference in the life of a homeless student and to be a consistent positive role model.

Volunteering for School on Wheels offers you a great deal of flexibility. Tutoring usually occurs after school and in the evenings; however, we work with your schedule to make volunteering as convenient as possible for you. There are many volunteer opportunities during the work day and on the weekends as well.

Become a Volunteer Tutor Coordinator

Do you want to help reach more homeless children and practice your leadership skills? Become a Tutor Coordinator and lead a group of tutors!

Volunteer Tutor Coordinators match new tutors with homeless children and provide support and assistance to our tutors. They are critically important to our program and allow School on Wheels to provide services to more homeless children. If you would like to have an even greater impact in your community, this volunteer position is for you!  Read our FAQs·

Become a Family Volunteer Tutor

School on Wheels is proud to offer our family package for young people (12 and older) who would like to be a positive influence in the life of a homeless child. Youth who are interested in tutoring simply have to complete an application, attend an orientation, and tutor with an adult family member or an adult group coordinator who is approved by School on Wheels. The adults who accompany the youth tutors have to complete our regular application process. This is a great way for young people to get involved in their community and learn what it means to give back.
