High School Graduation Requirements

Your student must complete specific courses in order to graduate from high school. In addition, your student must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). After you have reviewed the High School Graduation Checklist, please use the Master Education Plan to create a four-year plan. If your student is considering attending a four-year college, include the UC or CSU requirements (see Graduation Requirements) in the plan.

Note: You must also print activity forms and worksheets.

Lesson Description

The purpose of this lesson is to help your student familiarize him or herself with the high school graduation requirements. You and your student will also develop a plan that will set him or her on the right track towards graduation.

Activities

  • Print out the High School Graduation Requirements materials from our website
  • Review your student’s transcript, if available
  • Review courses required to graduate from high school
  • Review courses required for University of California (UC) eligibility
  • Review courses required for California Stated University (CSU) eligibility
  • Using the High School Graduation checklist, discuss what courses your student has already taken and passed and which courses he or she needs to take in the upcoming semester(s)
  • Using the Master Education Plan, plan out what courses your student will take each academic year to ensure he or she meets all high school graduation requirements
